All four primary branches of the US Armed Forces are adopting the M17. The Marines are buying 35,000. It's unknown if that's for conventional Marine forces only (replacing the M1911A1, M9, etc.) or also includes MARSOC. For now, we don't really have an accurate M45 pistol, so I guess strict immersion dictates the M9 as the closest approximate representation, while the more practical minded would probably take the Custom Covert II as it's the only pistol in the arsenal with a suppressor.

I don't believe RHS has a P320/XM17/M17. And there's no real time pressure to include it: the first M17s will be delivered to the 101st Airborne at the end of 2017.

US Diplomats Land in Oman & Other News - Grand Central Times - 19th May 2017

Sending diplomats while a consulate in another area burns. This is an interesting juxtaposition. I'm sure everything will be fine. Also, those op-eds... BDA 500/100. -

I'm so tired of WW2 games following 1st Army. I'm tired of Normandy, I'm tired of MARKET-GARDEN. Is it too much to ask for some 3rd Army action? I want Patton, damnit.

Arma 3 is getting an Aircraft Carrier
Maj (Ret) Ray replied to Sgt (Ret) Pleasant's topic in Tun Tavern
If the scripts are the issue, and other units use the Nimitz without issue, then what scripts are the other units you cite (not) running? The fact remains that there was a clear before/after difference when adding and removing the Nimitz on a template. Whether that was the mod itself or scripts added on can be up for debate, but its presence was a clear cause of performance problems. I know S-4 spent a lot of time on both the Nimitz and LHD trying to get either or both to work as expected, and I doubt highly that whatever additional functionality they included would cause such a huge performance hit. It is accurate to state that the Nimitz caused noticeable performance issues. All the Matrix image macros in the world won't change that. I think we'll all be happy with the vanilla aircraft carrier. -
Now, see, if I had followed through with the logical conclusion to sneaking up on you, I would have to counsel myself for violating unit policies.

Arma 3 is getting an Aircraft Carrier

You could tell me this, but it would contradict proven test results we sent up in the 13th. There was a clear, direct, and stark difference in performance when adding and removing the Nimitz on a template. It wasn't the only contributing factor, but it was a very demonstrable contributor, with a clear before/after change. It was removed from ORT 04 and 05 for a reason. I'm optimistic about this new official carrier simply because it is not the Nimitz. -

A mod that caused a big chunk of the performance issues we experienced as a unit, and was only partially useful for something besides background scenery. -

The War Powers Act comes into play here. The president has 48 hours to notify Congress and can commit for up to 60 days. Multiple outlets reported Congress was notified, as was Russia, as was Israel, and countries including Canada support the strikes. So it seems to me that word circulated around as necessary. What's interesting to me isn't a strike on an airfield, it's that the strike happened while the Chinese PM was at dinner with Trump. The timing was intentional. Wonder if Kim-Jong Un will be performing a surprise, extended subway inspection tour…

A pinprick strike is probably the least bad option.

You'll love the new patch.

As a follow up, here's the DayZ developer video on Enfusion performance over Real Virtuality. This video is a year old. You can also see the visual rendering improvements, particularly to lighting. Enfusion basically doubles FPS over Real Virtuality with the same graphical settings. And since this is a year old, that neat little performance boost everyone has seen with vanilla ArmA 3 in 64-bit mode isn't factored in here.
-
Enfusion is the new engine/renderer that BI has been working on since about 2014, in parallel with DayZ's development. I believe it debuted in DayZ 0.60, albeit in still experimental and incomplete form. Backporting it to ArmA 3 is more trouble than it's worth, so expect it to continue to be developed for DayZ, then used in ArmA 4. One of the Enfusion project goals is to decouple the renderer from the simulation, which should help server performance nicely--if it happens. Here's a video from last year showing some of Enfusion's DX11 effects.
-
Expect little and less on this front. Adding true multithreading to the engine requires basically rebuilding it from the ground up. It's not worth the time and effort to rebuild Real Virtuality when BI is actively developing Enfusion. By all accounts, Enfusion will have DX12 and/or Vulkan support (planned then canceled for ArmA 3, replaced with the "visual refresh" a few patches ago), and true multithreading/multi-core support. So you can expect an Enfusion-equipped ArmA 4 to deliver on actual technical advances. ArmA 3 getting 64-bit compatibility is a bit of a miracle in and of itself.
