DPRL forces on Saaremaa Island shells ROL mainland

The inhabitants of Nida were awoken by the sound of artillery shells landing in the town's small industrial sector. ROL military officials are claiming that the shells were fired by DPRL artillery stationed on the Island of Saaremaa, just a short distance off the coast. ROL officials immediately attempted to contact DPRL opposites but have reportedly received no answer. ROL artillery units stationed at the nearby military base were ordered on high alert but had not yet returned fire at approximately 05:00. Many fear that this is retaliation from the claimed "assassination" of DPRL dictator Nikolay Dragomirov earlier this week. The ruler likely died in an accident with his private helicopter, but several DPRL outlets have been promoting the claim that the United States or the ROL killed him.

Nida's proximity to the DPRL-ROL border and the nearby ROL military base has made it a target on a few occasions in the past. 2 Inhabitants were severely injured in a small artillery duel in 1997, two ROL soldiers were killed and another 3 wounded during a similar incident in 2001 and most recently in 2011 when a DPRL coastal patrol vessel ran aground near the town on the ROL side of the border and its crew was detained.
