Opposition Forces Declare Legitimate Government in Venezuela; International Recognition Grows

In a significant development amid Venezuela's ongoing political crisis, opposition forces across several major cities have declared themselves the country's legitimate government. This move comes as the fighting over key regions keeps intensifying.

The Organization of American States (OAS) has recognized the envoy of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó as the country's official delegate to the group until new elections are held. Additionally, the U.S. government has recognized Venezuelan opposition candidate Edmundo González as the “president-elect” of the South American country. Several key EU countries such as the United Kingdon and France have also recognized Venezuela’s exiled presidential candidate Edmundo González as the country's legitimate and democratically elected president.

These international endorsements have bolstered the opposition's claims, leading to widespread protests and the establishment of parallel administrative structures in cities like Maracaibo, Valencia, and Barquisimeto. Opposition leaders assert that these actions are necessary to restore democratic order and address the country's deepening humanitarian crisis.

President Maduro's government has condemned these developments, labeling them as foreign interference and attempts to undermine Venezuela's sovereignty. Despite international pressure, Maduro maintains control over the military and key government institutions.

The situation remains volatile, with a high potential for further escalation. Rising oil prices for instance have further increased the pressure to a quick resolution of the escalating conflict.
