Everybody Wants to Rule the World

 

The year is 1985. At the May Day Celebrations in Moscow, Mikhail Gorbachev announces his intentions to bring about massive reforms to the Soviet Union. A band of hardliners within the politburo and conservative military leaders enact a plan to seize control of the Soviet Union and continue the path towards a world socialist state. The plan is a stunning success, and the defenders of the Gorbachev claim are quickly outnumbered and overpowered. Protests in the streets of Leningrad, Moscow and Eastern Europe are squashed with brutal force. Gorbachev is captured trying to flee Soviet troops, confesses to his crimes before the Supreme Soviet, and is summarily executed.

Now, small rebellions have sparked up across the Soviet sphere of influence, and Soviet troops are responding to many, but not all. One that has since gone uninterfered is The Soviet Republic of Chernarus (an autonomous Republic of the Soviet Union) has completely seceded from the Union, and Moscow has not made any indication of taking the country back. The rebels that have seized the nation are ultranationalist, and may have control of the whatever nuclear arsenal was stored in Chernarus. With the Soviets not responding to the rebellion, democratic forces in parts of the country have also risen up, and now the fragile independence is threatened by civil war. In order to protect civilian lives and prevent the ultra nationalists from using their nuclear arsenal, the US is deploying troops to the country, and the 13th Marine Expeditionary unit is tasked with the northeastern part of the nation.

 

If you miss conventional tactics, this fun op is for you. You will have sticks. Two sticks and a rock, and the whole platoon has to share the rock.

I want this mission to feel dramatic, so I’ll be asking players to maintain an operational sense of decorum if they choose to participate. You don’t have to use ranks or any of that, but please try to remember the setting. You’re a Marine at what may be the brink of WW3 in 1985, not an eMarine in 2017.

With that in mind, I will be trying to make this mission (and its followups, if there’s interest) difficult and a bit foreign. Sure, we’ll be carrying M16s and M249s, but we’re not going to have MicroDAGRs or personal radios to fall back on. Only the RTOs will have access to comms (I may walk this back to FTLs having radios depending on how awful having fireteams limited to verbal comms since hand signals can only be so accurate in Arma).

Don't have to fill all these, I'm thinking first two are SuperCobra, the three are a Huey with door gunners? Again, you guys are sort of the bosses of how you run things so it's up to you. But there's no authentic/decent looking fixed wing mods that have 80s era marine/navy airframes so you're stuck with rotary.

As for when this is happening, I'm currently saying next Friday, 31MAR17 @ 2000EST.
However, if people enjoy it and want to play more I have more missions in mind for the future.

We've been discussing that. Yes, and I might add an extra mod to make the M60 super nice, but if not there's definitely one available in CUP Weapons.

Due to lack of sign ups, I'm just gonna postpone this until I get back from my LOA in mid-April. Sorry :(
This will give me time to guilt trip people into playing ;)

But yeah I'll keep the roster up and post up and if anyone is just generally interested leave a post and I'll poke y'all when I figure out a better date.
