11th of November

Recommended Posts

Just a reminder that 100 years ago today, one of the bloodiest and most brutal wars of the 20th century ended with the signing of the November 11th Armistice. The Great War was a war with no real 'bad guy', and I respect all of the soldiers from all participant nations; nearly 10 million military personnel perished in the four years of fighting. Let's hope that this history never repeats itself, and those that perished rest easy knowing they made a sacrifice for something they believed in.

100 years ago, it would've been us in the trenches.

But now, for the first time, I see you are a man like me. I thought of your hand-grenades, of your bayonet, of your rifle; now I see your wife and your face and our fellowship. Forgive me, comrade. We always see it too late. Why do they never tell us that you are poor devils like us, that your mothers are just as anxious as ours, and that we have the same fear of death, and the same dying and the same agony--Forgive me, comrade; how could you be my enemy?
