All commands are to ensure OPSEC throughout rank and file. Deployment for all commands is expected no later than March 11th and Task Force Cobra shall begin operations no later than March 12th. Direct presence of command is required. Briefing to follow. Two days ago the American crew of the MV Europa Flame was taken hostage while transiting the Malacca Strait approximately 525 nautical miles northwest of Singapore. This marks the 67th ship to be attacked in this strait over the last 365 days and the third ship with American crew. Today the hostages were rescued, and the ship was recovered by DEVGRU. Recovered intelligence has tied several of the most recent attacks to the Ikan Archipelago off the coast of Indonesia. The uptick in activity, including the targeting of US Citizens, is of growing concern to the Pentagon. In response, Task Force Cobra is tasked with seeking out and destroying any and all organizations hostile to US interests within the Ikan Archipleago. Permission has been secured from the Indonesian government for US forces to operate on their soil. That said, discretion is always expected. Attached is an orientation image. Cargo Ship Hostages Rescued by US Navy SEALs The Grand Central Times - Dateline March 9th 2020 Image of the hostage rescue released by the Pentagon Families of the MV Europa Flame's crew, who had been held hostage for over 48 hours aboard the vessel since their abduction on Saturday, can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The Pentagon announced early this morning that a hostage rescue operation was successfully conducted by US Navy SEALs, and that all six hostages were recovered with only minor injuries. According to reports, the crew was accosted by a series of fast-moving boats late Saturday afternoon. The boats contained men with automatic weaponry who quickly boarded the vessel and took the crew hostage. It comes as no shock that an absurdly high ransom was subsequently demanded from the parent company of the Europa Flame and what can sometimes become a long standoff began. However, the fast and decisive action of the US Military has put a quick end to what would surely have been a terrifying experience for the crew. There are even rumors that the raid itself was conducted by the infamous Seal Team 6, who were made famous by the operation they conducted to kill Osama Bin-Laden in 2011. Unfortunately however, we could not find any source that could verify this claim. The successful rescue of the MV Europa Flame's crew comes as a great relief, not only to the families of the sailors, but to international experts on piracy in the South China Sea as well. Experts have cautioned on numerous occasions that piracy in the region has been steadily on the rise in recent years. This is especially concerning as the area that has seen the most uptick in activity includes key shipping lanes in and around Singapore, which has about 40% of global trade pass through every year. The raid reasserts the US' commitment to never negotiate with terrorists, in any region but as a reminder for this one, and experts hope it may serve as a deterrent to future pirates in the region. While US' projection of military power abroad has been a point of concern for many, in this instance at least, there is very little that can be argued against if their actions serve to secure such a vast portion of the global economy. Coalition forces deployed in the area fighting to keep democratically elected leaders safe and in power. U.S. Forces currently deployed to Afghanistan, alongside U.K. Canadian, and Italian forces. ISIS has gained significant strength in Afghanistan after its collapse in Syria and Iraq. Taliban is gaining public support as time passes. Northern Afghanistan has been abandoned by coalition forces and the Taliban and ISIS are both vying for control. Iran is stable but has little to no influence on the Straight of Hormuz remaining. Militarily strong but public opinion is low of the military's ability to defend the country given the ease the U.S. pushed in and destroyed a large quantity of defensive infrastructure. Iran was previously trying to destabilize the middle east to be able to take over as the primary power in the region but after the U.S. discovery of their involvement with the chemical weapon attacks and the mass of U.S. troops at the border, the Iranian leadership is re-evaluating their stance and strategy going forward. U.S. Special forces actively conducting operations in Iran to track down those involved with the attacks. Kurdish rebels have declared independence as Iranian Kurdistan and are waging a war against the Iranian government. Iraq is stable but with a severely weakened military. ISIS's in Iraq has been utterly destroyed. Four Divisions of U.S. troops deployed to their border with Iran as a safeguard against the discovery of Iranian involvement with ISIS and chemical weapons attacks. Oman is stable after the near-crisis with Yemen in 2017. Their economy is booming with the recent discovery of more oil drilling locations within their borders. Syria suffered a series of attacks from ISIS in mid 2018 but the Syrian Armed Forces successfully managed to dismantle the terrorists in the country and has since been recovering from the turmoil. Yemen is stable and has little continued conflict with Oman since 2017. The economy is improving and public order and support of the government is increasing. Asia and the Pacific Australia is stable and has been steadily increasing military spending since the RIMPAC incident with China. Australia has begun conducting regular training exercises with U.S. forces and is preparing for if and when China continues its aggression. China is stable and ramping up their aggression in the South China Sea. Chinese politicians aim to secure the majority of the key shipping lane by 2021. China has voluntarily withdrawn from the horizon islands but is currently building islands in the South China Sea, working their way towards the Philippines. Chinese special forces currently supplying the New People's Army in the Southern Philippines with monetary support, weapons, and supplies in attempt to get them to overthrow the Philippine government and establish a Communist Government Sympathetic to Chinese interests. China has fostered an uneasy alliance with Russia since 2017's RIMPAC incident to combat the U.S.'s power in the region. Philippines is unstable while actively fighting a terrorist organization working their way up the Southern Islands. Public order is decreasing the longer the conflict continues. Intelligence suggests a possible link showing that China is supplying the New People's Army but nothing is confirmed or concrete. Consider the U.S. a friend but political leaders want to show the nation's strength to their citizens and to China so they are currently unwilling to accept U.S. help in any of their conflicts. Russia is looming on instability with a series of political scandals implicating the Russian President in rigging local elections. Russian politicians actively making international threats to distract the population from the scandals but one more major internal crisis could topple public order. Militarily Russia has built up a strength equal to the former soviet union and is actively broadcasting it. Russia allied with China and deployed large portions of their fleet and naval infantry to Vladivostok in 2017 following the RIMPAC incident in order to combat the U.S.'s influence and power.
