From: [email protected] <Thomas Godfrey> To: [email protected] <Sean Whelan> CC: [email protected] <Clark Williams> Subject: ::TS:SCI::JOINT TASK FORCE ASSIGNMENT::TS:SCI:: //SECRET//JSOC//MARSOC Captain, I'm pleased to inform you that your company has been selected to be a part of a new joint USSOCOM/CIA initiative being formally referred to as Task Force Cobra. This task force will be comprised of Alpha Company, 3d MRB; Alpha Company, 4th Battalion, 1st SFG; a 160th SOAR Detachment, and two CIA SOG teams. The purpose of this task force is to provide a standing special operations force capable of rapid deployment across the world to conduct complex or large scale special operations missions, harmoniously with the CIA, in environments too complex for regular SOCOM conventions. The mission set that will be undertaken by Task Force Cobra has previously necessitated the creation of single use task forces comprised of forces under the same chain of command, that then interfaces with whatever CIA assets were in field at a particular AO. With Task Force Cobra you will be working alongside and through the same CIA assets in order to increase effectiveness and enable more rapid response times to global crisis. The Task Force will also be training together during downtime to maximize the effectiveness of coordinating complex special operations missions within each of your respective skill sets. As part of this change you are being reassigned under Lieutenant Colonel Clark Williams who will be the commander for Task Force Cobra and will report directly to USSOCOM Headquarters. That said, you will retain your normal structure on paper as being Alpha Company of the 3d MRB for the sake of operational security for the duration of the task force. If, for whatever reason, the task force must be terminated, you will be reassigned back into your normal command structure. Additionally, as part of this change, the entire task force will be issued AOR1 Uniforms, Multicam Uniforms, and Multicam Black in addition to the regular combat uniforms patterns, to allow you to blend in with attached forces as needed and be flexible enough for any mission set needed by the CIA or USOCOM. Your first assignment will be in Northern Afghanistan where Task Force Cobra has been tasked with disrupting enemy operations, establishing contact with The Northern Alliance and determining the viability of using them as allies, as well as preparing the way for coalition forces to retake the area. This operation is being labeled as Operation Bloodhound and will be viewed as a test bed to determine the initial effectiveness of Task Force Cobra. Have your company ready to move by 0300 on July 9th. You will be flown into the City of Herat and will then be forward deployed to COP Endurance where you will be briefed by the CIA. Signed, General Thomas A. Godfrey III Commanding United States Special Operations Command

Afghanistan crumbles amidst Taliban and ISIS disputes. ADA News - Dateline July 6th 2019 The country of Afghanistan has long been a country plagued by war and sectarian violence. From the Soviet invasion in the 70s to the American invasion and subsequent overthrow of the Taliban government it has been a long and troubled path to recovery for the poor middle eastern nation. US Involvement in Afghanistan dropped to a record low during 2016 when the United States withdrew a majority of their forces and allowed the ANA to take over general upkeep and security. With the US withdrawal from Afghanistan the country’s path to recovery took a sharp turn downwards. Taliban force reemerged in less than a year and caught the ill prepared ANA off guard, taking portions of western Afghanistan, most notably including the city of Herat, despite there still being a US presence around the city at the time. From there US forces were redeployed, much to the displeasure of the american public, and control was re-established over western Afghanistan during an 8 month long U.S. lead offensive. The U.S. recommitted to training, more effectively this time, the ANA and ANP to protect and defend their own land. Any progress made during that year was abruptly shattered when ISIS detonated a chemical weapon in the capital city on voting day. Coalition forces struggled to maintain control as public support of the democratic government and coalition forces dropped to the lowest it had in years. Many people turned back to the nearly defeated Taliban for security and support as their democratic government failed them. Spurred on by the sudden influx of support, the Taliban launched a major offensive recovering large areas of Northern Afghanistan and reestablishing Taliban rule in these areas. The Afghan government has announced a “temporary withdrawal” from these areas essentially leaving them wide open for the Taliban to walk in and claim them without resistance. This hegemony over Northern Afghanistan has recently come under threat however as ISIS-A (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria - Afghanistan branch) has seen a significant influx of fighters and material following the ISIS collapse in Iraq and Syria. Using contacts in the fractured Iran, ISIS has managed to transfer large parts of its most diehard fighters to Afghanistan and have begun muscling in on Taliban territory in the North sparking several engagements between the two terrorist organizations. Amidst this chaos, reports are also coming in from a group of political moderates banding together following the Afghan governments withdrawal. These moderates have taken on the name “United front for the Salvation of Afghanistan”, more commonly known as “The Northern Alliance”. Drawing on the legacy of the historic Northern alliance who fought against the Taliban regime from 1996 until the US invasion in 2001. Reports are scarce but over the past couple of weeks it seems that they have successfully fought both ISIS-A and The Taliban to a standstill. ANA forces secure an ISIS-A held compound in Northern Afghanistan. The region's future remains uncertain as the hard pressed Afghan government has declined to comment on what seems like a surrender of their territory to the Taliban. A NATO spokesperson has commented that NATO forces remain committed to the Iran-Iraq standoff but will offer Afghanistan all possible support. The Pentagon has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors of US Special Forces deploying to Afghanistan. I've had some people talk about having an interest in playing this RPG online (Mainly Falconer wanting me to bring this back). So I thought we'd see if we can stir up any other interest in the game. What is Edge of the Empire and Age of the Rebellion? Obviously this RPG is set in the Star Wars universe, this particular one focuses on the seedy and dirty side of the universe: smuggling, bounty hunting, assassinations, piracy, and all things illegal. The name of the game is living in the chaotic times of the Galactic Civil war, job to job and port to port. Just how will you live and interact with this world? This game, much like other RPGs, are only limited to the player's decisions and as such anything is possible. Would you help the Empire with odd jobs they don't want on the record? Will you aid the uprising Rebellion and put a hurt on the Empire? Or will you avoid the conflict all together and try and survive through your own actions and expertise? Unlike D&D this game uses a different dice and rules mechanic, which avoids traditional number crunching. This game encourages creativity and role-playing. What matters more in this game is your decision and creativity, rather than the lucky roll of a 20 sided die. Currently we only have one or two players interested and wanting to join. As such we don't have any dates set in stone for play times yet. Right now we're more interested to see if anyone else in the unit would be interested in joining in some adventures. For all that are interested in playing, I've listed three things down below. These right now are generic and I'll help with character creation later, but to see who is actually interested and what times we can play I'll need a few things. Firstly, my current idea is to play on Mondays, as it was the only time the first few people who came to me were available. However, if we end up having some interest on some other days I may be able to do those days as well. For everyone interested, if you can PM the following four things to me that would be very appreciated: what days work for you to play, a race for your character, a class for your character, and your character's obligation. I have provided the core races and classes below, I've kept them generic for now until I can work with individuals and making your characters. Player Races: (If there are any races you want to ask about in the starwars universe feel free to PM me with that race and I'll see if I have the data for it) Players have the option of the following races in the Star Wars universe: - Bothans: Furry little animal people, they're pretty quick witted. - Droids: Inorganic life that the player can edit all aspects of their droid. - Gands: Insect race that breath ammonia - Rodians: Greedo from the movie, they have an ancient hunting culture and have high dexterity - Trandoshans: Giant killer lizard race. They are by far one of the strongest races, and have a natural healing factor. - Twi'leks: Humanoid aliens that originate in an arid condition, are often viewed as one of the most attractive races. - Wookies: Big Sasquatch creatures that often rely on their large physical stature. Let them win. - Humans: One of the most common races in the galaxy, most of the Empire is manned and operated by them. As a species they are very well rounded and can be seen in any job type. -And More that I don't have time to list Career Choices: Bounty Hunters: Lives for credits, these characters are used to and experienced with any form of violence to catch their targets. They will range from killing their targets from the shadows, using expensive and elaborate technology, or even using old school survival techniques. This class will always find its way to the center of a fight. Colonists: This class tries to make the best of life out on the frontier. Often they will be doctors, scholars or even the colony leaders. When a blaster isn't needed they'll be using their knowledge, quick wit, and their charm to navigate tense situations. More often than not they are the face of a group of adventurers. Explorers: The mappers of new and dangerous lands. This class spends their times exploring through the stars and planets, and find their home in the hull of a ship. They are often used as scouts, merchants, and mappers of new hyperspace lanes and worlds. You'll never be lost in the galaxy with an explorer by your side. Hired Guns: The muscle of the Outer Rim. This class favors any solution that can be solved with a blaster or a vibro-axe. They'll often be hired as protection detail or a heavy hitter for a dangerous job. These few find comfort in the heaviest of fights, and can turn the side of any skirmish. Smugglers: It's hard to imagine the Outer Rim life style without the image of a smuggler. This class always finds its way back into the skeesy underside of frontier life. They often make the best pilots and thieves with their dexterous abilities. But be careful, they're often very influential in the underworld and will have many ties to the black-market and other criminals. Technicians: The ones that keep the engines running in the black of space. Tools and keyboards are the technician's weapons. They keep the ships running, they can make the best of hackers, but they can also use their own creativity to make upgrades and their own inventions to improve the group's abilities. When something starts rattling or there are some files you need erased from the Empire's data logs you better find a Technician. Obligation: Out on the Outer Rim, there is always someone at your heels. Some debt that needs to be paid, or some favor cashed. This does not have to be a literal debt, it can be anything that haunts the character. Often it will be something they are trying to resolve, such as Han Solo's debt to Jaba the Hut. It will often be on your character's mind and may be driving their actions. This is going to be a major part of the character's backstory and their overall character. A list from the core book will follow, but feel free to come up with your own backstory as well. -Addiction: Drugs, gambling, and even the rush of adrenaline. If there is something that can be an addiction it can apply. -Betrayal: You betrayed someone close to you, or someone close to you betrayed you. -Blackmail: Someone has discovered your dark past or secrets. They're using using this against you to keep you on a leash. -Bounty: You have a bounty on your head, and it may cause hunters to be on your tail. -Criminal: A criminal record. You may have even been accused wrongly and are trying to clear your name. -Debt: A literal debt -Dutybound: An oath or a promise that you feel compelled to follow. This will often be some legal or ritualistic bind to an organization (such as a previous military, guild, or clan). There will often be some detriment if a character isn't committed. -Family: Some deep tie with a family member is driving you. -Oath: A moral view of the world. This oath could be to a single person, a deity, or some way of life (such as the Jedi code). This option binds your morals and way of life firmly to your character. -Obsession: You are completely obsessed with some aspect of society: a single celebrity, cultural icon, greed, any facet of society. You'll do anything in your power to get close to this obsession. -Responsibility: You feel it is your job to protect something: a region, a planet, or thing (orphanage, a single city, an animal or sentient race). This is mainly trying to see if there would be any interest in having this as a game night. No times are set in stone yet.
